Mount Calvary's History
Throughout the years Mount Calvary has provided a church home for individuals and families in the southeastern Twin Cities area looking for spiritual and personal growth in a friendly and supportive environment.
We invite you to join us and see God's love at work though Mount Calvarys ministries.
In August 1960 the first the first worship service was held in the basement of the parsonage. It was attended by 38 adults and 30 children. About two months later, the church's official charter was signed by 92 members. The Sunday school enrollment of 100 had to be conducted in three different homes.
The first church building was completed in 1961, in a field next to a farmhouse and a barn. Sixty families attended the first worship service in the new building on Easter Sunday - A very special event.
Mount Calvary quickly began forging a role in the community, including making a ball field available for the little league on church owned land. One of Mount Calvary's most significant contributions to community life was the establishment of a kindergarten class. The local school district was without a full nine-month kindergarten at the time; so several area churches, led by Mount Calvary set up class programs.
Because of continued membership growth, Mount Calvary has undergone four building upgrades through the years. Including the most recent expansion of the narthex and office areas in 2004.
