How we are going to be the church
during a global pandemic

We can’t go to church, but that doesn't mean we're going to stop being the Church. The Church exists for moments like this. To lessen the health risk for people, we won’t be physically gathering for a while. We will instead be live streaming worship, hosting Bible studies on Zoom, and connecting through email, Facebook, snail mail, and phone calls.

While many of us are at low risk, we want to act out of love for our neighbors who we interact with both inside and outside of Mount Calvary's walls. Please continue to follow CDC and state guidelines for prevention and treatment. Here, you will find everything you need to know about how we will stay in community during this pandemic. Keep checking back here as this will be our main page in keeping connected.

For pastoral emergencies, please call Pastor Tom 563-650-7252.

Connect with us

We will be going live on YouTube and connecting via Zoom regularly through the quarantine for worship, prayer, and fellowship.

  • Worship

We will be live streaming our worship services Sundays at 9:30 a.m. on YouTube here. This new way of gathering is designed for worshiping from home, whether it's just you or your entire family around a computer, TV, or your smartphone. We will be hosting virtual Holy Communion during our quarantine. Gather whatever you've got at home to represent your Communion elements - bread or crackers, juice or water - whatever you've got! We recommend preparing these ahead of time, so that you can participate with us online. After we are able to meet again, our virtual Holy Communion will transfer back to in-person Holy Communion.

Miss it? You can find our recordings here.

  • Fellowship and Prayer

We will continue to gather, monitor, and send prayer requests during this time. Join others from the church to pray for Mount Calvary as the Holy Spirit leads. You are welcome to join us for Fellowship and Prayer after worship each Sunday. We will check in with each other, enjoy virtual company, and pray together.

  • Learn the Lord's Prayer in American Sign Language

Learn the Lord's Prayer in American Sign Language One of our members, Wendi Buck, has created a series of tutorials on how to say the Lord's Prayer in American Sign Language. You're invited to learn it over our quarantine and when we are able to come together again, we will be able to say The Lord's Prayer together in ASL!

    Watch the videos:

    1. "Our father in heaven, hallowed by your name"

    2. "Your kingdom come, Your will be done, on earth as in heaven"

    3. "Give us today our daily bread."

    4. "Forgive us our sins as we forgive those who sin against us."

    5. "Save us from the time of trial and deliver us from evil."

    6. "For the kingdom, the power, and the glory are yours, now and forever. Amen."

Touch base with your church family

If you are able to help from home, we are looking for people to touch base with our church family - those who live alone or might not have internet - to check in with them and see how they're doing. If you're interested in helping with this ministry or in some other way remotely, please email Pastor Kelli at

    Serve at The Open Door

The Open Door Food Shelf, one of our ministry partners, needs your help to feed 10,000+ people every month. COVID-19 has cause a large amount of people to lose their jobs - you're help in donating to The Open Door, financially or with your hands, is needed! Find out more information here.

    Boxes of Hope

As part of River Valley Church’s continued response to Covid-19, they’ve partnered with Boxes of Hope (BOH). BOH is a national campaign to bring hope to the doorsteps of those facing illness, quarantine, job loss, isolation, and fear. RVC has received two semi trucks of emergency relief supplies from Convoy of Hope and have been collecting donations from attendees over the last two weeks. All of these donations will be assembled into boxes that they want to get in the hands of those in need, beginning next Saturday May 16. A standard box will include staple food items, snacks, and hygiene/cleaning items. A baby box will include those items plus baby food, wipes, and diapers. Our hope is that these boxes will meet a person/family’s very basic needs in a small way and will bring them hope in a very uncharted time.

Families and individuals in need of assistance can request a box on the RVC website until Wednesday, May 13:

Give flowers in honor of someone special

Acknowledgement of the flowers will be included in the bulletin for that Sunday. Write cards to others in our church family

We would like to do a card ministry at Mount Calvary during this pandemic, but we need your help. We will provide the cards, envelopes, labels and stamps. All you have to do is write a note to the recipient. The first 30 people that contact us at will be able to pick up the card packets at Mount Calvary. We will let you know when we have the packets ready. Join us in staying connected with our community!

We're collecting names of your small businesses

We want to invite you to let us know of small, local businesses that you own or are employed by so we can list it on our website for fellow parishioners to see and support it. Let us know where we can find out more information and how to best support the small business here.

We want to hear from you!

Thank you to everyone who has already taken our survey. If you haven't yet, we would love your thoughts regarding faith formation, missions, and giving at Mount Calvary. This survey takes less than 5 minutes to complete and the information we gather will help leadership move forward to best meet your needs during this time of physical distancing. Projects for Kids

Staff and members of Mount Calvary have made a couple of projects for your kids to keep busy, study the Word, and learn about what Easter means for their faith.

  • Family Storytime

You are invited to Family Storytime via Zoom on Fridays at 10:30-11 a.m.

These meetings will follow the "Faith Five" format:

    - SHARE (highs and lows)

    - READ (a storybook or Bible story)

    - TALK (with your family about the story)

    - PRAY

    - BLESS

This can be a nice break from the school schedule, if you can swing it. Kids are welcome to log in on their own while parents are working. We will do our best to keep them engaged for a solid 30 minutes! If you have any questions, reach out to or We hope to see you Friday!

Liz will be sending our usual Sunday School families an email with the link and password the day before in an attempt to keep Zoom meetings safe for our kiddos. If you are interested and don't receive her emails, please email her at

  • Flat JEsus

Let's invite Jesus on our Journey! We have missed sharing the story of Easter and what it means for our faith to all of our Sunday School kids. So, in the meantime, we'd like to send Jesus to your child(ren). Below you will find a link to picture of Jesus. Have your kiddo(s) decorate, color, scribble, etc. the picture. As our church community cannot come together, we can share with our children that Jesus is always with us. Send us photos of your child with flat Jesus during our time away and we will share the photos via slideshow or something similar. This is such a fun and encouraging way for our kids to see that God is everywhere! You'll be surprised just how much they'll enjoy showing off their masterpiece, who is Jesus Christ. When completed, send to Jenny at

Please note: We need your permission to share photos of your children. Most kids already have this paperwork into us, but if not, you can download it here.
