Groups & Ministries

We have many amazing opportunities available for you to join. Whether you're a young adult, a parent, or someone taking advantage of your retirement. We invite you to step foot in a ministry at Mount Calvary, make new friends, and learn about God together. This is your invitation to be part of what God is doing at Mount Calvary!

Children

The children's ministry is thriving at Mount Calvary! We have many amazing opportunities for your young ones to be involved.

  • Vacation Bible School (VBS)

During the Summer, Luther Crest offers Vacation Bible School. The program includes lots of things we love like crafts, Bible studies, music, and time in groups with a counselor. For more information, contact Pastor Kelli at pastor.kelli@mtcalvary.com or Jenny Bottem at jenny.bottem@mtcalvary.com.

  • Sunday School

Every Sunday during the school year at 9:45 a.m. for kids ages pre-K through 6th grade.

Kids connect with the Bible story of the day with age-appropriate activities, music, and a child appropriate sermon. A great way to connect with other families for faith and life. Parents/caring adults can choose to stay with their child or attend worship. Kids will join in worship for the second half of the service, approximately at the end of the sermon.

  • Parent/Child Sunday School

1st Sunday of each month through the school year, beginning October 1 at 9:45 am

Faith learning for your family together: A great way to connect with other families for faith and life. Class begins with adults and children together for songs and Bible story. Then adults separate (in the same room) to talk and support each other about parenting while kids are busy with supervised play.

Contact Liz Lindner for more information.

  • F3: Faith, Friends, Fun

5th and 6th graders may choose to attend F3 instead of Sunday School. Focused on developing friendships before Confirmation, F3 will go deeper into Bible stories as well as provide service-learning opportunities in a more "youth group" style environment. Contact Erica White for more information.

  • Choirs & Bells

There are plentiful opportunities for your young one(s) to get involved in music programs at Mount Calvary. Choose from God's Children Sing, Praise Choir, Joy Choir, Alleluia Choir, or Rings of the Lord.

  • Advent-in-a-Bag

To help your families create special memories this year, we have prepared Advent-in-a-Bag kits. Each kit contains one craft, Bible story reading, biography of a person of faith, and prayer for each week, as well suggested discussion questions, songs, and picture books to extend learning throughout the week. We expect that you will choose what's of interest to your child, or what is age-appropriate and skip the rest, so there is no pressure to do EVERYTHING we recommend.

We think kids ages 3-10 would enjoy these activities the most, but kids of any age are welcome to a kit.

You can sign up to get Advent-in-a-Bag delivered to your door November 23-25.

Youth

  • Confirmation

Confirmation is the time for youth to pay special attention to their faith at a critical point in their lives. We learn about the most important things in the Bible and in our faith in large groups and build relationships with each other in small groups. We also take field trips to learn about other religions and important life events. 7th & 8th graders participate in confirmation group time on Wednesday nights. Youth are confirmed in a special worship service in the fall of their 9th grade year.

    Register for Confirmation

  • High School Youth Group

During the school year, 9th-12th graders meet Wednesdays at 7 p.m. (7:15 during Lent) every week for fellowship, learning, and fun. We also have events like service projects, lock-outs, and lock-ins, as well as one large-scale trip every summer. Contact Rebecca Gierok if you have questions or ideas for what you'd like your time to be like.

  • Luther Crest Bible Camp

Middle school students will be going to Luther Crest Bible Camp in Alexandria, MN the week of July 19-24. That’s the date we decided on for our group to go, but you are welcome to sign up on your own and go a different week. Elementary school students and high school students are also welcome to sign up too- students as young as 3rd grade can go for weeklong camp. If you'd like to join in on the Mount Calvary group, 7-8th grade should sign up for "witnesses" camp, 3-6th grade students should sign up for "leapers" and high school students should sign up for "blazers."

This year, we shifted some things around in the budget to help off set the cost of camp because we believe it's important and formative in faith and relationships with each other. For the first 15 middle school students to sign up (before February 10), camp will cost $350. Priority will be given to middle school students, but if there are still funds available, we will offer that up to high school students and elementary school students as well.

To register go to Luther Crest's website or print off  a Luther_Crest_Registration_2020.pdf (or pick one up on the Children, Youth, and Family bulletin board) and mail it in.

If you have any questions, contact Pastor Kelli Weiss.

  • Summer Trip

Each summer, our middle school and high school youth take a service or adventure trip, go to a youth gathering, or camp.

Our high school students will be going to Camp Amnicon outside of Superior, WI the week of July 26-31. We’ll be doing service work in the Superior/Duluth area the first part of the week, and going canoeing the second part of the week. Estimated cost of the trip will be $325-400 (depending on transportation needs). Contact Pastor Kelli Weiss if you have any questions.

As always, we never want the cost of the trip to deter students from being able to participate. If you would like to go on the trip and a scholarship would be helpful, please talk to Pastor Kelli.

  • Choirs & Bells

Join the Youth Choir or ReBELLious Bell Choir! Our music enhances worship, offers an opportunity for people to share their musical gifts, and provides for personal spiritual enrichment while becoming an area for social interaction.

  • LifeStories

One of Mount Calvary's hallmarks is our sense of community and support for each other. LifeStories puts that into action--getting to know each other more in-depth by helping others tell their life stories. An intergenerational project, LifeStories particularly focuses on helping older members permanently record the stories of their lives--what they accomplished, whom they love, what makes them unique. Contact person: Rich Cowles 651-253-3267

  • Choirs & Bells

Mount Calvary's choirs become an area for social interaction. The community of singers or ringers becomes another area in the community of believers where people can find support for one another.

    • Confirmation for 7th and 8th graders begins with worship at 6:30pm (parents are encouraged to attend worship with students), and continues with large and small group time from 7:00pm to 8:00pm. Each class session will be centered on a critical question that our students may be asking about the Bible, the church, or their own faith and beliefs.
    • High school (9th-12th grade) youth group meets at 7:00 (7:15 during Lent) every week for learning and fun.
