Welcome to Mount Calvary! I have had the joy and privilege of serving as Lead Pastor at Mount Calvary since May 2013. Walking through the joys and challenges of life with this community of people has been a great gift. I grew up in the small town of Earlville, IL. I studied history and political science at the University of Tennessee-Knoxville and was ordained after studying theology at Wartburg Theological Seminary in Dubuque, Iowa. I previously served as pastor at Atonement Lutheran Church in New Brighton, MN. In a former lifetime, I was also an assistant program director at Lutheran Outdoor Ministries Center in Oregon, IL and a youth director at St. Stephen’s Lutheran Church in West St Paul, MN.

When I am not doing the work of being a pastor, my life is full with the responsibilities of raising three teenagers with my spouse, Stacey. Together, our family spends a great deal of time at school and sporting events. When we have the opportunity, we love to travel and to experience new places and to meet new people. We have a particular fondness for the Rocky Mountains and northern lakes. In my free time, I love to be outdoors, to listen to music, and to dabble in photography. I look forward to getting to know you better and to living together in this faithful community!

I started at Mount Calvary in February 2019. I’m originally from Southern California and I lived there for about 2/3 of my life, then moved to Minnesota in 2008 so I could go to seminary (don’t worry, I own a parka now). I received my BA at California Lutheran University, and my MDiv with an emphasis in Children, Youth, and Family at Luther Seminary. I’ve been a pastor in two congregations before Mount Calvary- one in Hastings, MN and the other in suburb outside of Milwaukee, WI. 

My husband, Jesse, and I met on the first day of school at Luther, and have been married since 2012. We have two busy and joyful children, as well as a golden lab, in our family. Jesse is a camp director, so we’ve spent a lot of time at different Lutheran camps over the years. When I’m not at Mount Calvary, I like to spend time with family and friends, cook, go for walks, be outside, or go on random adventures around the cities. I’m excited to meet you!

I joined the staff at Mount Calvary in 2023. I've served churches in Iowa, Michigan, and Minnesota, and I feel blessed to now be leading the music ministry of this vibrant and gifted congregation. I studied organ performance at Dordt University in Iowa, church music at Trinity Lutheran Seminary in Columbus, Ohio, and piano pedagogy at Grand Valley State University in Michigan. In addition to my work at Mt. Calvary, I am the organ professor and chapel musician at Augsburg University.

My wife, Alena, and I live in South Minneapolis with our two lively young daughters and our part-chihuahua mutt Copper. As a family we love to be outdoors, especially hiking around the lakes, rivers, and forests of Minnesota, or visiting our favorite place on earth, the white sand beaches of West Michigan. When I have some time to myself I enjoy reading, watching movies, singing, and playing chamber music with friends.

As the Director of Administration at Mount Calvary, I am the main point of contact for communications, events, and facilities. I hold a bachelor's degree in marketing and international business along with a minor in Spanish from Bethel University. Previously, I've worked in other church and nonprofit offices and have been part of the crew at Mount Calvary since February of 2020! My favorite things are planning my next adventure, playing with dogs, and spending time with friends and family.
