What is a Columbarium?
A columbarium is a resting place for cremated remains of loved ones. Mount Calvary is partnering with St. John’s Cemetery to provide a columbarium option for your loved one.
The St. John’s Columbarium has 109 double niches, each holding two urns. After burial, the name of the loved one is inscribed on the marble marker for the specific niche.
This serene space offers a beautiful final resting place that is deeply rooted in the care we have for our loved ones.

History of the St. John’s Cemetery
St. John's Cemetery in Eagan was founded in 1889 as part of a small country church where local settlers could gather for worship. The St. John's Lutheran church located next to the cemetery was destroyed twice by fire and rebuilt before finally being moved to the town of Rosemount in 1938.
The cemetery is currently cared for by a small but dedicated group of volunteers.
With the construction of our columbarium project St. John's Cemetery is looking forward to providing a peaceful and dignified resting place for the remains of family members and loved ones far into the future.
Acquire a nicheThe Saint John’s Columbarium is currently being planned and will be constructed in August 2026 and completed in September 2026.
For those who are seeking a peaceful and sacred place to lay their loved one's ashes to rest, Saint John’s Cemetery is pleased to offer a 15% preconstruction discount on all niche purchases.
We warmly invite you to schedule a personal visit to the columbarium site, where you can take your time selecting the niche that feels right for you and your family. Pricing varies by row, ranging from $2,300 to $2,600, and each niche includes two urns and engraving, everything needed to honor your loved one with dignity and care.
When someone purchases a double niche, the funds are held in escrow for the burial and care of the remains in perpetuity.
We would be honored to walk alongside you in this process. If you have any questions or would like to learn more, please don't hesitate to reach out to Ron Carlson, caretaker of Saint John’s Cemetery, by completing the form on this page or contacting the church office.
