Tanzania Companion Congregation: Bega Kwa Bega
Mount Calvary Lutheran Church partners with the Saint Paul Area Synod’s “Bega Kwa Bega” companion‑relationship with the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Tanzania (ELCT) in the Iringa Diocese. “Bega Kwa Bega,” meaning “shoulder to shoulder” in Swahili, reflects the spirit of mutual support and shared ministry that guides this work.
Through this partnership, we engage in three core practices: prayer, presence, and projects. For example:
Prayer: We uphold our partners in Iringa in weekly prayer, deepening our spiritual connection across continents.
Presence: Our members and visitors have opportunities for cross‑cultural travel and hosting guests, which helps build meaningful relationships and shared understanding.
Projects: Together we’ve supported education (including secondary‑school and university scholarships), economic‑development initiatives, church‑growth efforts and more.
By partnering with the Iringa Diocese through this companion congregation connection, we help to lift up sustainable development, global community, and faithful outreach. To learn more about the Bega Kwa Bega initiative and our Tanzania connection, visit the Saint Paul Area Synod’s page here.
